For many small businesses, finding a group health insurance policy that is affordable can be a tough situation. Entrepreneurs should consider their own health insurance costs and those of future employees.

Why is group health insurance expensive for small businesses?

The cost of small business health insurance is dependent on a number of factors including:

Overall size of the company. The smaller the company, typically, the more health insurance costs will be due to the fact that the risk is spread over a small number of people. Large companies have better rates because there are more insured individuals, spreading the risk.
General health of the company. As more individuals make claims, the health insurance rates will increase.
Average age of the company. Young adults are more affordable to insure than older adults because they use health care services less often.

There are different options for entrepreneurs who want to provide their employees access to health insurance.

Here are some alternative options:

Find individual plans. Compare group health rates with individual health insurance coverage on the private market. GoHealth Workplace is one program employers can use to make it easy for individuals to find health insurance.
Offer to subsidize individual coverage. For employees that are buying individual plans, offer to pay a portion of the monthly premium.
Utilize high deductible plans. High deductible plans have low monthly premiums but leave employees picking up more of the cost. While this may not be the best option for all employees, it will help business owners save money. These plans can also be combined with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to accumulate funds for health care services and business owners can contribute funds to these accounts for employees.
Avoid mini-med plans. This type of policy provides employees with restricted coverage which could leave them with a lot of out-of-pocket costs and these plans will be completely phased out by 2014. The government is allowing only select employers to continue offering these plans currently.
Pick health insurance plans with limited networks. Health insurers can negotiate rates with select health care providers in an area to cut costs. A plan with a limited network will help cut the cost of monthly premiums but could be a hassle if the entrepreneur or employees travel frequently. This could also be a problem for employees that commute far to work.

Should you be looking for automobile protection, how can you discover the least expensive car insurance coverage quotes? It seems complex, but by performing a number of items upfront, you can obtain wonderful quotes on excellent insurance policy coverage. You needn’t be perplexed, just simply remember these instructions to acquire the best insurance coverage.

To start with, don’t hurry. By simply planning ahead, the insurance plan quest should go far more smoothly. Carefully consider insurance even before you purchase your car or truck! By receiving prices pertaining to numerous brands, you might find that one of the automobiles you’re looking at will be much more affordable to insure. Likewise, the various models of cars come with varied monthly premiums. For instance, sports cars will bring a more significant monthly premium as compared to mini vans.

You will want numerous estimates before you decide on a agency. A couple isn’t sufficient — you’ll need at a minimum five or ten. Considering that prices vary from business to business, you’re doing your self a great favor by comparing premiums. You are going to most likely uncover that the difference between the most expensive and least expensive estimate is hundreds of bucks! You may not prefer to end up shelling out that higher monthly premium, now would you? Becasue it is so easy to acquire quotations on the internet these days, there is absolutely no reason for not reviewing lots of quotes to find the best insurance coverage at the best price tags.

Secondly, when you order your insurance policy, select one with a large insurance deductible. A higher deducible means that should you have any sort of accident, you’ll have to pay out more out of pocket until finally your insurance starts. This makes a significant difference in the month-to-month premiums and could definitely save a little money over the long run. Of course, it really is unfortunate when you have any sort of accident, but simply by adding a few bucks away in savings, you can certainly deal with the deductible.

Next, make certain your own credit score is in very good standing in advance of submitting an application for insurance policies. Since individuals with bad credit are more likely to report a claim, the insurance policy companies will certainly charge them more. So get your credit rating in shape! Look at your credit report with the credit reporting firms. If there are mistakes, get them adjusted. If the credit score is poor, figure out why and correct it. Now and again, you can favorably have an effect on your credit score within a couple of months. Pay your bills by the due date, make use of your credit lines sensibly, and verify credit reporting errors. If called for, meet with a finance advisor to make a program to get the credit ratings up. This really is yet another hint that will help save hundreds of dollar over time.

Finally, maintain a clear driving report. A man or woman with absolutely no moving violations, no traffic citations, as well as no DWIs can have a fairly good chance to find the lowest car insurance rates. Sometimes straightforward things such as going for a defensive driving class can occasionally ensure you get much less expensive insurance protection. Making your self less of a threat to the insurance company can lead to lower costs for you.

If you are trying to evaluate auto insurance policies from many of the large carriers like Tesco Car Insurance, be sure to visit Insurance Task Force. We have reviews of Tescos policies as well as those of many other large insurance providers.

Starting a family is an exciting and happy time in a couple’s life. However, before you start making room for a baby, it’s important to think about health insurance and if your policy can offer you and your new family the coverage you need.

Before getting pregnant consider the following:

Get covered now. Don’t wait until after you are pregnant to get a health insurance plan. And, remember, not every insurance plan will cover all of your costs. Read up on your policy or give the company a call. Maternity hospital stays can be very costly, and the last thing you want is a surprise months from now on your bill. Figure out if your plan offers everything you need, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Learn how many visits your insurance group will allow and if there is any program they can offer to help defray your costs.

Add on a rider. Let’s say your insurance plan will not cover your pregnancy costs – and many plans do not. In this case, you can add on a rider to your existing plan to help pay for your costs in the future months.

Talk to your health insurer and employer. If you are having a baby, you need to make sure that your insurance company is aware of it, as well as your employer. Give your insurance company a call and ask them to list out your benefits, and then address any concerns or questions you might have. The same goes for your employer plan. You need to learn about the maternity leave offered at your office, or the paternity leave if you are the father.

Learn the latest insurance news. Thanks to the recent health care reform provision, breast pumps and lactation support can be provided without a copayment. Women can also be screened for gestational diabetes without a copayment during pregnancy as well.

Add on a dependent. Once the baby arrives, don’t forget to add him or her on as a dependent to your insurance plan. Make sure that your plan will cover your new bundle of joy before getting pregnant, and consider making a will or living trust to help secure his or her future.

Remember, when it comes to health insurance coverage, the rule always is: Get it before you need it. And this couldn’t be truer than when you are thinking about having a baby!

There are many benefits to group health insurance plans but they aren’t always the best option.

Sure, the employer picks up part of the tab but employers are also passing more of the cost to employees than ever before.

Here are a couple examples of when a group plan may not be the best option:

The group plan is considered a mini-med health plan. Mini-med plans are typically offered by restaurants and to part-time workers but there are a lot of exclusions in the plan and they will only coverage a percentage of health costs.
Deductibles on high deductible plans continue to get more expensive. At some point, certain deductibles are no longer affordable to consumers depending on their budget. For the really high deductible plans, consumers should either open a Health Savings Account (HSA) or find an individual health insurance plan.
Costs for dependents and the spouse continue to increase. Some companies are increasing the employee’s share of costs for dependents or a spouse to save money. In this case, spouses should either stay on separate plans or consider an individual plan instead of adding a dependent.
Maternity coverage is not provided and it’s a wanted benefit. If a couple wants to start a family but the group plan doesn’t provide maternity coverage, they should look to get a rider from the health insurance company or purchase an individual plan.

Consumers should also be aware of additions to employer health plans. Many companies offer Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) which are a nice benefit and addition to a health insurance plan but they also have a lot more limitations when compared to an HSA.

Check out the original source here.

Car Insurance is not so much for protecting you, it is to protect other motorists, the public and other parties property in case you cause harm or damage to them. They can then claim any costs from your insurer. As you can imagine, it would be grossly unfair if you crashed in to somebody’s house and they had to pay for the repairs.

Having liability insurance is the minimum type of insurance you need by law to drive legally and is called Third Party Insurance.

Car Insurance becomes more expensive when you start insuring your own vehicle at the same time. Insuring your vehicle comes in two forms of cover. One is known as Third Party Fire and Theft, which covers you if your car is broken in to or vandalised. The other type of cover is called Comprehensive. This is the most common type of car insurance bought because it also gives you complete cover for your car. So, even if you cause an accident and damage your car, your insurer will still pay for the repairs to your vehicle as well as for the third party.

Car Insurance became a legal requirement in the United Kingdom from 1930. The law on it was tightened further in the late 1980′s when the Road Traffic Act of 1988 was published. The rule states that any driver, whether you own the vehicle or not, must have either have insurance provided by a regulated car insurance company or deposit a large sum of money with your local county court.

The latter option being pretty unrealistic seeing as most of us don’t have tens of thousands of pounds to permanently deposit and it is also quite risky because if the amount you have deposited doesn’t cover the cost of any claims made against you then you are personally liable for the remainder of the claim, meaning you would have to sell your possessions to cover the cost, even your house if you own one.

This is why most of us go with a car insurance policy. Although it is expensive it is much more economical and provides greater cover. You will find that any reputable insurer will provide personal liability cover to £20 million pounds as standard. This is pretty good value for money considering that to buy the cover only costs a few hundred pounds.

An average of 12,800 Americans are bitten by dogs every day. That is 4.7 million dog bite victims per year, according to reports by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). About one sixth of these attacks-800,000-cause injuries serious enough to require medical aid. About half of those victims end up in emergency rooms, making dog bites the second leading cause of emergency room visits (behind injuries from playing softball or baseball). An average of 16 people die each year from dog bites.

Children are more likely than adults to be severely injured by dogs. The greatest incidence of serious dog bite injuries occurs among boys aged 5 to 9 years, with 60 out of 10,000 boys that age being treated in emergency rooms for dog bites. Not surprisingly, more children are treated for bites above the shoulders than adults are-70 percent of children versus 30 percent of adults.

A some dog bites come from feral dogs and strays. On the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota, a community of 23,000 people, some 4,000 feral dogs the area cause an average of two dog bite incidents each week, according to a report that appeared in National Geographic. The vast majority of biting dogs are not strays, however, but household pets that have gone astray. The owners of these dogs can be held liable for the injuries caused by their pets.

The laws on dog bite liability vary from state to state. In many states, the victim must show that the attack occurred because the dog owner was negligent. Other states have “one bite” laws. These statutes hold that a dog owner is always liable for the behavior of his or her pet. California, for example has a law that reads, in part: “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”

People who work closely with dogs, such as veterinarians and dog groomers, are not covered by these laws. The victim also may have not claim if he or she was teasing or physically abusing the dog. People bitten while committing a crime against the dog owner often are exempt from claims of liability.

Many homeowners insurance policies offer liability coverage for dog bites, but not all do. Some insurers exclude dog bite liability completely from their homeowner insurance coverage, while others exclude bites by certain breeds, such as American Pit Bull Terriers (pit bulls), Rottweilers, Huskies, Saint Bernards, Great Danes, and German Shepherds. Dog owners should review their home owner insurance policies to see if they are covered for dog bite liability. If in doubt, they should speak with their insurance agents about what exclusions, if any, might pertain to their pets. If necessary, the dog owner might be able to add a rider to his or her policy to guarantee liability coverage for dog bites.

Meanwhile, dog owners should do everything they can to reduce the chances that their dog will bite anyone. The CDC recommends several precaution steps, including:

Speak with an animal professional, such as a veterinarian, to learn about your breed of dog and how aggressive it might be
Remove any dog with a history of aggression from households with children (including visiting children)
Spay or neuter your dog to reduce aggressive tendencies
Do not roughhouse with your dog
Social and train your dog, emphasizing submissive behavior
Seek professional guidance if your dog showsgressive behavior

All dogs descended from wild creatures, and certain instincts are hardwired into their brains. Dog owners should enjoy their pets, but they should never forget that an ancient predator still lurks within their best friend’s genes.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released final rules about creating nutrition labels for health plans. These labels will be used to describe every health insurance plan in a uniform and easy to read format.

All employers and health insurance companies that offer individual or group plans will have to comply with the rules by September 23, 2012 – giving health insurers and employers only six months to adopt the changes.

Health plan labels will include six pages of information for consumers to review including price estimates for health care services, maximum out-of-pocket costs and a glossary.

The labels will not include the monthly premium amounts but consumers will know what the baseline of the premium is before they look at the plan details. Premiums are subject to underwriting and can change based on that process.

Here are six steps to compare plans with the new labels:

Figure out how much you can afford to spend every month to pay the monthly premium.
Review deductibles and find one that you would be comfortable with – if you can match the deductible in case of an emergency then it should be a good fit.
Does the plan cover in-network and out-of-network visits? Is that important to you and your family?
Do you have a primary care physician? If so, is that physician covered with the plan?
Highlight any out-of-pocket health care costs are you susceptible to and determine if you can afford them.
Read the complete health plan nutrition label to have a complete understanding of what you are buying.

Do you have a Maryland Auto Insurance policy that has been cancelled? Then, there are many questions that might be coming to your mind: like why this did happen to me? And how can I avoid this happening in the future? Here are some helpful tips on how to avoid getting your auto insurance cancelled by your insurance company and what you can do about it if this happens to you.

The most common reason for being cancelled by your auto insurance company is the failure to make payments of premiums before the due date. One thing to remember is that the due date is the last day of the billing cycle. Therefore always make sure to make the payment before 12 A.M of the due date.

Once the insurance policy is cancelled, a lapse in policy is generated. The consequence is your insurance company may not cover any claims that arise as a result of an accident that occurs during the lapse period. Therefore, pay your premium immediately when you receive a cancellation notice. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE DURING THE LAPSE PERIOD.

The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) receives notices of vehicles with lapsed policies. The MVA at some point will send you a notifice of the uninsured periods of your vehicle(s). They will request that you submit a Maryland Insurance Certification (FR-19) form to certify that your vehicle was covered during the lapse period and impose a penalty in the form a fine for the number of lapse days. In some instances they may even suspend your license until the fine is paid.

One of the benefits of having a knowledgeable auto insurance agent, is that they will call to remind you of the payment due date and help you to avoid being late on your payment. When looking for a new auto insurance agent, ask them what procedures they have in place to help you avoid being dropped by your auto insurance company? Then, listen. You will know who you need to be working with to protect yourself and your family.

Every year as individuals go through open enrollment they learn whether or not their group health insurance rates have changed. Unfortunately they may not fully understand the explanation behind the increases or decreases.

Here are five common reasons for rate increases:

1. As a whole the company filed a lot of claims. The more claims a company files, the more likely their health insurance rates are going to increase.

2. Company is insuring fewer employees. If a company downsizes then it could be subject to higher health insurance costs. In general the bigger the pool of employees – the better – because the risk of those who frequently use health care services are balanced with those who do not use it very often.

3. Group plan had to comply with health care reform provisions. Certain health care provisions require companies to add benefits which could lead to greater costs. One of the most popular reform provisions requires new plans to provide health insurance to dependents until the age of 26, which can lead to higher costs.

4. Experience rating is used to identify premium amounts. The age and the utilization of health care services are taken into account along with the overall health of the employees. If the health of the company declines and the average age or utilization of services increases, then the company plan could be subject to changes.

5. State has issued new mandates for coverage which can include autism coverage, changes in mental health or maternity benefits. Any time there are mandates requiring additional coverage, it is likely that health insurance rates will increase.
